    Creating Treatments

    Article summary

    Treatments

A Treatment is any work performed or value added to Parts. Treatments are typically done at Stations, for example, a Treatment called "Blue Powder" could be added to a Part at a Station called "Powder Booth."

Treatment names usually specify information about what work is to be done on a Part.

Some example Treatment names could include:

    • Work that indicates billed time
      • "Mask & Prep"
      • "Custom Packaging (Fragile)"
    • Inventory consumed on the treatment
      • "Blast - Fine Grit"
      • "Powder Blue RAL 12345"
    • Specifying Equipment / Settings
      • "Auto Oven 4hr"
      • "Zinc Flake Line"
    • Other process steps
      • "Unloading"
      • "Quality Inspection"

    Treatment Groups

Treatment Groups are designations of similar Treatments joined in categories for organization. A example of a Treatment Group is "Paint" which could include all the specific paint Treatments such as "Blue Paint", "Black Paint", and "Pink Paint".

    Creating Treatments

Treatments can be created in multiple or individually. Navigate to the Treatment Tile found in the Planning Section of the Steelhead Homepage to create and manage Treatments.

    Treatment Times

Filling out the Treatment times when you create or edit a Treatment improves your documentation, production, and Scheduling capabilities. There are three types of Treatment times that reference how default time is applied to Parts undergoing the Treatment.

    Time Type Selection:

    • General Batch Process
      • The default time is applied to whole Batches of parts.
      • Example: You paint 10 Parts at a time because that's how many Parts fit on the Rack and it usually take 30 minutes to complete the Batch.
    • Per Part Time
      • The default time is applied to individual Parts.
      • Example: You blast Parts one at a time and it usually take about 10 minutes to blast each Part.
    • Part Number Specific Batch Process
      • The default time is applied to specific Part Number batches.
      • Example: You usually bake Parts in Batches based on how many fit in the oven, but different Part Numbers take various amounts of time to bake.

    Default Treatment Times

A default Treatment time is the estimated time of completion for Treatments to be applied. Default times can be applied to both Treatments and Treatment Groups, but Treatment times always override Treatment Group times. There are two types of default Treatment types:

    • Cycle Times
      • The amount of time that passes from the beginning of a Treatment until a new batch of Parts can be entered into a Station.
    • Total Time
      • The amount of time that passes before a Batch of Parts can be Treated, and available again for the next step.

    Default Treatment Time Settings Levels

There are numerous places where you can configure default Treatment Time settings. As described above, you can specify Treatment times when you create Treatments and Treatment Groups, but you can also add more specific times to Stations and Part Numbers which will override the general settings.

    Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 10.41.02 AM.png

The following is a list of precedence order from highest to lowest priority level:

    • Part Number Station Treatment
    • Part Number Treatment
    • Station Treatment
    • Station Treatment Group
    • Treatment
    • Treatment Group (base level)

    Treatment Group Time Settings

Treatment Group time settings are the base level priority. The general Treatment Group settings will be used only when there are no other settings available. For example, you could put a default total Treatment time as 60 minutes because it generally takes an hour to paint a full order.

    Treatment Time Settings

The next level is Treatment specific time settings. For example, "Black Paint" take a little bit longer than other Treatments because you need extra coats of paint. You could set the Treatment default time setting for 70 minutes which would override the Treatment Group default of 60 minutes.

    Station Treatment Group Time Settings

The next level of specificity is Station Treatment Group time settings. This setting is for Treatment Groups being completed at a specific Station. For example, if "Paint Booth 12" tends to paint quicker than "Paint Booth 4", you could set the the total time settings for 50 minutes when "Paint Booth 12" is completing the Treatment Group "Paint".

    Treatment Prioritization

In order to assign a Treatment in Prioritization, it must first be assigned to both a Work Order and a Station

To configure the Station Treatment Group time settings:

    • Navigate to the "Treatments" Tile found in the "Planning" section of the Steelhead homescreen.
      Screenshot 2025-05-08 at 8.12.44 AM.png

    • Click the Treatment Group tab and enter a desired Treatment Group Page.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.20.03 AM.png

    • Scroll to the "Stations" section.

    • Add or edit a Station by clicking + ADD STATION or click the Edit pencil icon.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.20.59 AM.png

    • Configure the time settings.

    • Click SAVE.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.22.47 AM.png

    Station Treatment Time Settings

Station Treatment time settings will override all previous settings. This is when a specific Treatment occurs at a specific Station. Continuing with the above examples, the time for "Black Paint" being done at "Paint Booth 12" could be configured as 55 minutes. This time would take priority over the settings listed above.

To configure the Station Treatment time settings:

    • Navigate to the "Treatments" Tile found in the "Planning" section of the Steelhead homescreen.
      Screenshot 2025-05-08 at 8.12.44 AM.png

    • Enter a desired Treatment Page.

    • Scroll to the "Stations" section.

    • Add or edit a Station by clicking + ADD/EDIT STATIONS FOR TREATMENT or click the Edit pencil icon.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.26.17 AM.png

    • Configure the time settings.

    • Click SAVE.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.25.46 AM.png

    Part Number Treatment Time Settings

The next level of priority is Part Number Treatment time settings. This is for specific Part Numbers that go through a Treatment. For example, you can specify that a "3" Bolt" takes only 10 minutes to be treated with "Black Paint".

To configure Part Number Treatment time settings:

    • Navigate to the Part Numbers Tile from the "Planning" section on the Steelhead homescreen.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.34.47 AM.png

    • Enter into the desired Part Number Page and scroll to the "Treatment Times" section.

    • Click + NEW TREATMENT TIME.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.35.51 AM.png

    • Select the desired Treatment.

    • Input the "Set Per Part Time" and/or the "Set Total Time", if applicable.

    • Click SAVE.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.37.00 AM.png

Part Number Station Treatment Time Settings

The top priority level of Treatment time settings is the Part Number Station Treatment configuration. This sets the time for specific Part Numbers entering specific Stations to complete specific Treatments. For example, if "3" Bolts" are being treated with "Black Paint" and "Paint Booth 12", you can set the time for 20 minutes. This time will override any other settings previously configured.

    • Navigate to the Part Numbers Tile from the "Planning" section on the Steelhead homescreen.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.34.47 AM.png

    • Enter into the desired Part Number Page and scroll to the "Station Treatments Overrides" section.

    • Click + CREATE STATION TREATMENT OVERRIDE.
      Screenshot 2025-05-12 at 11.45.13 AM.png

    • Select desired Station.

    • Select desired Treatment.

    • Set the default cycle time, total time, and pick the time type.

    • Click SAVE.
