Custom Reporting Variables
Variables in Steelhead are a great way to give the customer access to filtering a larger data set in the UI and restricting the amount of data in a final report.
Overview
From the reporting dashboard, you can filter report results without needing to go to the query. Some useful filters might include things like Customer Name, Date, Month, or Completed status. In the animation below, active order report results are filtered by customer name:
Multiple inputs / filters can be added as well, in case you need to filter on multiple criteria. This update requires some adjustments to existing queries, but is relatively quick to do.
A challenge with custom reports is that even if they are correct at the time they're written, updates to the reporting database or to other areas of the software can either break them or make them obsolete.
- Over time, many changes have been made to accomodate the need for more data to be available in reporting, one of the biggest causes for delay in reports.
- If custom reporting doesn't show the information needed, consider exploring Watch Tower (for parts) and Insights (for jobs).
