        Guide to Outsourcing

        When to use

Outsourced services mid process, such as laser, vapor degrease, blasting, masking, etc. One example: a shop may complete metal finishing on parts, and then send to a vendor for vapor degrease. The vendor will then return the cleaned parts, and they can be received in outsourcing and then moved on to the next steps.

        How to set up

        1. Add an outsource node, select outsource node type. Some customers may want a "Ready for Outsourcing" node, it depends on the order of operations. A lot of times, it will work to not have a "Ready for Outsourcing," and just move it directly into that node where you can then create a purchase order and shipper.

Tip: Name each node the name of the service. 1 node for blasting, 1 for masking. Opt in/out of either one.

        1. Activate a "Vendor Shipper" template in Steelhead.

        How to use

        1. You can navigate to the outsourcing dashboard from the Steelhead home screen.
        2. When parts are in the outsource node, you can view outsourcing information for that RO or you can navigate to the global outsourcing screen which is shown in the video.
        3. There are four stages to the outsourcing node: parts awaiting PO, parts awaiting shipper, parts awaiting departure, and parts at vendor.
        4. Once the parts are back from the vendor, you can receive them in the outsourcing dashboard and choose to move them in the work order or leave them at the outsourcing node.
